Item Descriptions Design Doc
The following are a series of item description practices from the Pixelles Game Writer Program. I was challenged to create sets of short item descriptions in different styles and genres.
Style: Conversational Genre: Sci-Fi/Fantasy RPG
Portable Camping Kit
A set of a tent, fire starter, and perimeter alarm. It’s everything you need for a night while keeping safe from what hides in the darkness.
Rookie Sword
A simple weapon that is the calling card of a new adventurer. While polished and unadorned, you can notice that the sword itself isn’t new. Hopefully the previous owner just traded it in…
Masterwork Bow
The pinnacle of archery, crafted with precision and care. This bow will give you a range of options on the battlefield.
Leather Armor
Lightweight protective gear most explorers should consider. You’ll stay nimble, protected, and comfortable.
Stardust Armor
Forged from a star that fell from the heavens, this adaptable armor will protect you from most dangers while its beauty will inspire your allies.
Outlander Cloak
A necessity for most travelers, this cloak will keep you warm, dry, and alluringly mysterious.
Ring of Suns
This ring still burns with the magical fire it was forged in. Coastal wizards have long used these to amplify their spellcasting.
Amulet of Stone and Sapling
A symbol of the reforged alliance between the Glitterfalls Mountains and Deeproot Forest. You can almost feel the love between the two figures depicted on its face.
Healing Salve
An alchemical mixture that takes some time to apply, but will heal most wounds and cure most conditions.
Drowsing Rod
While most adventures will use this to stop a foe in their tracks, the creative have sometimes opted to use these when plagued by insomnia.
Style: Humor Genre: Horror
Semiautomatic Handgun
Easy to carry and easy to fire, this pistol needs good aim to make up for its lack of stopping power. Be sure to save that last bullet, just in case.
Sawed-off Shotgun
Easy to count the number of shots, doesn’t take up much room, and looks badass to boot! It’s efficient and powerful, just don’t miss.
Marksman Rifle
A longer range weapon for when you don’t want to get intimate with a set of sharp teeth.
RPG
Single-use rocket launcher. Let’s hope whatever you shoot goes down in one hit…
Spiked Baseball Bat
Well, someone’s ruined this perfectly good baseball bat. Now its only use will be cracking line drives into a creep’s chest.
Flashlight
Essential item to see what’s about to chew your face off. Be sure the batteries are heavily used so it flickers at just the right moment.
Flash Grenade
Crack one of these open with the boys. And by the boys, we mean monsters bent on devouring. Stunning.
Stim Shot
A quick pick-me-up that’ll help more than chomping on some plants.
Mysterious Man Photograph
A photograph of a well-dressed man from behind. Ooh, who is he? How mysterious and, dare I say, charming? Seems like the kind of person you’ll want to keep an eye out for.
Keycard
A keycard with a very serious looking scientist’s face on it. You’ll be able to do the favor of clocking in for them.
Downtown Map
A guide to all the hotspots in Karyon City’s downtown. Now, your guide on where to best avoid death traps.
Style: Informative Genre: Cooking sim
Cast Iron Pan
Your core heavy-duty pan for cooking all sorts of meals. Builds up seasoning to protect the pan and to enhance the food’s flavor.
Chef’s knife
Utility steel-forged knife used for slicing, dicing, and every other cutting technique you need with meat and vegetables. Be sure to keep the edge sharp.
Spatula
Essential tool for flipping and frying. Slotted blade lets liquid drain while serving.
Stockpot
Big pot for big dishes. This is reserved for your big orders of sauce, pasta, or soups. The stockpot is a workhorse: no flash, but very practical.
Stand mixer
The backbone of baking, the stand mixer will get your dough ready while you work on other elements. The cost is for the convenience!
Baking sheet
Line your trays with these to make cleanup a sinch.
Cutting board
Solid wood board to protect your knife’s sharpness and contain your food from oozing everywhere.
Salt
Far from just a flavor itself, salt will enhance what a dish tastes like already. A little goes a long way.
Black pepper
Whether on its own or in a rub, blend, or dressing, black pepper adds a little flavor kick with none of the heat of other peppers.
Gal Blaze’s Special Sauce
The sauce that put Gal Blaze on the map as a Chef Royale Champion. Mostly flavor and a little heat that makes the dish stand out, but won’t help you seem original.
